Description

There are many types of Salvia. They can be annual, biennial, or perennial herbs, and woody subshrubs. The leaves are sometimes toothed or pinnately divided. The flowering stems bear small bracts, and in some species the bracts are ornamental. Salvia Sizzler Series seeds mature into tidy 12” compacts ideal for indoor planters or as a neat trimming to your flower bed. Sizzler Series salvia grow one of the most dense and unique blooming stalks in any garden and are available in their specialty choices of burgundy, purple, red, or mixed. Some Salvia’s have hairy leaves or stems or flowers, and these hairs sometimes give off an aroma when brushed as oil is secreted. The flowers of Salvia are usually tubular with two “lips” – the lower one larger than the upper one – and often fragrant. ‘Sizzler Burgundy’ is a dwarf variety, with spikes of burgundy colored flowers through summer Most offer spikes of densely packed flowers in shades of pink and purple and have a long period of bloom. They are especially valuable where summers are hot and dry, for they ignore heat and go steadily about the business of making flowers. All prefer sun and excellent drainage.
