Description

This attractive flower offers a hot splash of color on a free blooming vine that grows like all get out. The blooms of the Abilene Clematis are a bright pink with dark stripes down the middle, leading to a fuzzy yellow center. This vine is excellent for training up a lamp post, pillar or gate. The unique color complements many other climbing plants such as roses and is sure to be a conversation starter. The Abilene grows best in full sunlight. If you do choose to add this delightful plant to your collection, you should be aware that it requires pruning every winter for optimum health.Very free-flowering, Clematis ‘Alaina’ produces masses of plump, pink flowers, up to 6 in. … Ideally, Clematis prefer having their ‘heads in the sun and their feet in the shade’. Keep the roots cool and shaded by other plants or add a layer of pebbles or flat stones at the base. The large 5-7″ flowers open deep creamy pink and fade as they mature which gives a range of shades of pink. The six broad petals are round and are sometimes slightly twisted, the center has contrasting yellow anthers making a very attractive flower. Grows to a height of 4-5′ making it a great choice for a container or small garden. Grows well in shade. Blooms June-July and late August/September. Pruning 2 or 3.
